National Living Treasures Award in 2000
In 2000 The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) declared Alonzo Saclag as a Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan Awardee (National Living Treasure)
While the Order of National Artists (ONA) is the highest state honor given to Philippine practitioners of the classical western arts, Gamaba is conferred on practitioners of traditional arts who mostly come from the indigenous cultural communities. The latter are otherwise called “national folk artists.”
GAMABA stands for Gawad ng manlilikha ng bayan, the very purpose of this award is to give honor and pride to those traditional folk artist and to preserve their works, skills and crafts. The Gawad ng manlilikha ng bayan or the National Living treasures award was established on April 1992 through Republic Act No.
The National Living Treasures Award, alternatively known as the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA; lit. 'Award for the Creators of the Country') is conferred to a person or group of artists recognized by the Government of the Philippines for their contributions to the country's intangible cultural heritage
